Our Lady of Lourdes – San Ġwann
The Parish of Our Lady of Lourdes in San Ġwann was established in 1965, following the pastoral efforts of the Capuchin friars who had been serving the growing community since 1956. Today, the parish serves a community of 14,244 residents.
The pastoral mission of San Ġwann Parish thrives through the dedicated work of various councils, commissions, and parish groups that cultivate faith, service, and community life. The Parish Pastoral Council directs and coordinates, while commissions of ‘Djakonija’, family, catechesis, liturgy, and youth ensure holistic pastoral care and spiritual formation.
A number of parish groups provide spaces for prayer, fellowship, and active participation, including the Parish Choir, Altar Servers Group, and Christian Families Group. Additionally, ecclesial movements such as the Neocatechumenal Way, Legion of Mary, and the Charismatic Movement encourage deeper faith engagement and missionary outreach.
Beyond the parish church, pastoral ministry extends to the Nazareth Pastoral Centre in Żwejt and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mensija, both serving as important places of prayer and liturgy.
